20 Poemas al árbol y un cactus de la costa

20 Poems to the Trees and a Cactus of the Coast

Neruda becomes root and word in this collection that revives the silence, the rain, and the memory of the forests through twenty-one illustrated poems.

This book brings together twenty-one poems in which Pablo Neruda sings of the forests of southern Chile. Trees, aromas, rain, fallen leaves, mist, wood, and towns are revived in a journey filled with memories and longing. Neruda, becoming a root himself, absorbs the forest’s bustling silence and offers it to us in every leaf of his florid language. With him, we close our eyes and let ourselves be swept into the dampness and the eternal return.
The names of the trees, plants, and flowers at the bottom of the illustrations are given in Spanish, Mapudungun (the language of the indigenous Mapuche people), and Latin.
The poems included in this book have been taken from the following works by Pablo Neruda: Canto general, Confieso que he vivido, Crepusculario, Estravagario, Geografía infructuosa, Las uvas y el viento, Memorial de Isla Negra, Nuevas odas elementales, Odas elementales, Residencia en la tierra II and Tercer libro de las odas.
